What is a Sacred Space?
In order to truly integrate inner peace, mindfulness, and energetic alignment into your life, it’s important to create a daily personal practice for yourself. This is a time when you can reconnect with your inner wisdom, find clarity, and cultivate a deep sense of calm.
To do this successfully, it’s helpful to have a dedicated space in your home – a place that feels calm and welcoming and that gently reminds you how much happier and more centered you feel when you take the time to check in with yourself every day.
This place is often called a Sacred Space. It’s meant to feel like a sanctuary for your soul: a physical place where you are completely safe, supported, and free to be your authentic self.
Today, I’d love to empower you to create your own Sacred Space and design your own rituals – ones that feel natural, intuitive, and aligned with your soul’s journey. I invite you to trust your instincts and design a practice that resonates deeply with you.
Cleanse Your Space of Negative Energy
You don’t need a lot of space to create a sacred area. A simple corner of a room will do. You just need:
- A place to sit (a chair or cushion)
- A flat surface (like a small table)
For your Sacred Space to feel peaceful, choose a quiet, clutter-free area with minimal distractions.
If you share your home with others, consider how you can keep this area private. You might even explain to your household that this is your meditation space, and no one else should use it. This way, you preserve the energy of the space and keep it uniquely yours.
Here’s my blog post on beginning a simple meditation practice: link
Once you’ve selected your space, take the time to align its energy. Cleanse it using:
- Smudging with sage or palo santo
- Sound healing with bells, chimes, or singing bowls
- Intention setting to infuse it with positive energy
Most importantly, trust your intuition. Make this place your own, so it feels cozy, safe, and like an extension of yourself.
How to Set Up your Sacred Space
Here are some elements you might want to include:
1. A Comfortable Seat
Whether it’s a meditation cushion on the floor or a soft chair, your Sacred Space should invite you to sit and relax.
2. An Altar or Focal Point
Set up a flat surface, for example a small table, the top of a dresser, a box, or even a tray. There, you can arrange meaningful objects, such as:
- Crystals
- Candles
- Images
- Personal mementos
For tips on working with crystals, check out my blog post on this topic.
3. Natural Elements
Depending on the season, you could bring in:
- Fresh flowers
- Pretty leaves, pebbles or sticks
- A small indoor water fountain for a calming effect
4. Aromatherapy
Scents can elevate your practice. Try:
- Essential oils
- Incense
- Herbal blends
5. Lighting
Soft lighting creates a tranquil atmosphere. Consider:
- Candles
- Himalayan salt lamps
- Fairy lights
6. Spiritual Tools
Your Sacred Space is the perfect place to store:
- Tarot and oracle cards
- Runes
- Journals and spiritual books
What is a Sacred Space Used For?
This is a place where you can create your own rituals – without worrying about what others think or whether there’s a “right” way to do things.
I encourage you to trust your inner wisdom and cultivate a spiritual practice that feels completely your own.
Here are some ways you can use your Sacred Space:
- Morning or evening meditations
- Breathwork for energy balance
- Reading spiritual books
- Journaling, gratitude practice, and intention setting
- Visualization and manifestation rituals
- Yoga and movement practices (keep your yoga mat nearby)
- Tarot and oracle card readings

Create Your Own Spiritual Practice
Your Sacred Space should feel aligned with your energy – it should be cozy, deeply personal, and ever-evolving… just like your spiritual journey.
To maintain the energy of your space:
- Regularly cleanse and recharge it energetically
- Keep it organized and free of stagnant energy
- Wipe down surfaces and refresh altar items when needed
- Rearrange or redecorate whenever you feel inspired
Your sacred space should never become stagnant. It should flow and shift just as you do. Allow it to evolve with your journey.

Creating a sacred space is about honoring yourself and your spiritual practice. It’s about carving out a space where you can show up for yourself every day – where you can listen, heal, and grow.
