Lion’s Gate 8/8: A Powerful Portal for Rebirth, Abundance, and Higher Consciousness

Every year on August 8, a powerful energetic portal opens in the cosmos. Known as the Lion’s Gate Portal, this date has long been recognized as a time of heightened spiritual energy, deep soul activation, and expanded potential for manifesting abundance and higher guidance. This can be a beautiful time to realign with your heart, remember your soul’s path, and consciously begin a new cycle.

What Is the Lion’s Gate Portal?

The Lion’s Gate happens each year when the Earth aligns with Sirius, our spiritual sun, and the energy of the zodiac sign of Leo is at its peak. Sirius is the brightest star in our sky and this celestial alignment is thought to bring messages and higher wisdom. In spiritual and energetic terms, the Lion’s Gate is an opening – a portal – through which higher frequencies, soul codes, and transformation energies pour into our consciousness. It’s a time to connect with your inner light, release limitations, and set bold intentions for your future.

The Power of the Number 8

In numerology, the number 8 symbolizes:

Infinite potential
Karmic flow and energetic integrity
Abundance and empowerment

When I was in college, I took an art history class that deeply influenced me. Our professor told us that any time we saw the number 8 in Medieval European architecture (for example: eight columns or an octagonal floor plan) we should remember that at that time it was common knowledge that 8 symbolized rebirth. In the Middle Ages, 7 was seen as the number of divine completion (God created the world in 7 days). So 8 was understood as the beginning of a new cycle of creation — the first step into something new.

This was the first time I understood that numbers could be given meaning, which in turn would impact how people designed their reality. That experience sparked my lifelong curiosity into the hidden symbolism of the world around us.

Sirius: The Spiritual Sun & the Dogon Mystery

Sirius, which plays a central role in the Lion’s Gate energy, is actually a binary star system: Sirius A (the bright one we can see) and Sirius B, a smaller, denser star invisible to the naked eye.

I first heard about Sirius B from an artist I met over 20 years ago. I was organizing an exhibition of his work, and during one of our conversations, he told me that his modern sculptures were inspired by the Dogon people of West Africa. The Dogon are known for their complex cosmology, which includes knowledge of Sirius B, its orbital period of 50 years and its characteristics as a white dwarf star… despite having had no telescopes or astronomical tools! Because western astronomy only confirmed the existence of Sirius B in the 19th century, some have theorized that the Dogon’s traditional knowledge could indicate contact with ancient astronauts.

How to Find Sirius in the Night Sky

If you want to connect with Sirius visually during the Lion’s Gate, here’s how:

Look for Orion’s Belt (three stars in a row).
Trace a line towards the left (southeast) from the belt.
The brightest star you’ll see in that direction is Sirius.

What to Expect during the Lion’s Gate

As this energy portal opens, you may experience:

Here’s how to create a simple personal ritual grounded in Mindfulness and Journaling:

Sit inside your Sacred Space, breathe, embrace stillness, ground your energy and light a candle.
Set your intentions (what you’re ready to receive, embody, or begin) by writing them down or speaking them aloud. Added bonus: this practice aligns your Throat Chakra.
Close your eyes and visualize yourself already living that reality (you can set a timer for a few minutes)
Open your eyes, grab your journal and explore these prompts: What part of me is ready to be reborn? What new cycle is beginning in my life right now?
